CHAPTER SEVEN

CONNOR

One minute I was engaged in one hell of a hot kiss; the next, I was lying on my side, knees drawn up, balls clutched in my hands, and screaming in pain.

I heard the doors to the hotel whoosh open, and two men who I assumed were hotel employees dropped to my side.

Tears streamed from my eyes; the pain was worse than anything I’d ever suffered before.

“I’m so sorry, Connor. Fuck, I’m so sorry.”

Tania was kneeling next to where I lay, rocking back and forth, her hand at my elbow. I shook it off.

“Sir, are you all right?” One of the men gave me a concerned look.

“No, I’m not fucking all right. Call my brother, Jake Masterton, and ask him to come and get me.”

“Certainly, sir.”

While one of the men hurried back into the hotel, the other helped me to sit. Tania hovered nearby, and if I’d had the strength, I would have knocked the bitch into next week.

“Connor…”

“Tania, just get the hell away.”

Tears streamed down her cheeks; I didn’t give a fuck. The pain wasn’t easing up. Why the fuck wasn’t it easing?

I felt the whoosh behind me as the hotel door opened once again. “Your brother is on his way, sir. Is there anything else we can do?”

“Thank you.” I looked up at the men and saw the pity in their eyes. I wondered if they’d had a similar experience at some time. “I’ll be fine. Thanks for calling my brother.”

The men nodded and headed back indoors to continue on with their jobs.

Tania continued to hover nearby.

“Get. The. Fuck. Away. From. Me,” I spoke angrily, punctuating each word.

“Connor, let me explain.”

“Which part of get the fuck away from me don’t you understand?”

Jake’s black sedan pulled up to the kerb, doors slammed, and both of my brothers came running. When they reached where I lay, they dropped to their haunches,

“Connor?”

“Take me home.”

Quinn glared up at Tania. “What happened?”

“I…”

“She kneed me in the fucking balls. Get her the fuck out of my sight and take me home.”

If looks could kill, Quinn’s glare would have had the bitch six feet under.

Jake, ever the peacemaker, and noticing how distressed Tania was, took her by the elbow and guided her into the hotel.

Moments later, he returned, and my brothers helped me onto my feet. No easy feat considering the pain I was experiencing. My shouts permeated the quiet of the night and I heard the flapping of wings as bats flew panicked overhead.

They held me while I descended the steps, and covering the ground one inch at a time, we crossed to the car. Jake helped me in and closed the door before climbing into the back seat. Quinn climbed behind the wheel, and it seemed he found every bump in the road on the way back to the compound. I was grateful for a reprieve when he stopped at the gate and spoke to the guard.

“Tell Doctor Vincent he’s needed at Connor’s place.”

The guard opened the gate, and as Quinn drove past, I saw he was on the telephone in the guardhouse.
